Hi guys! We have a potentially fun idea for Canvas, and we'd like to hear what you think!

Its codename is "Canvas Challenge". The idea is that each month a theme is set and posted on the discussion board, and Canvas members have a set period (perhaps two weeks) to create something based on that theme and share it with the community.

For example, the theme for June could be "rain". Anyone who wants to join could create and post something related to that theme. For example it could be a photograph, some music, a film, some kind of software, an illustration etc etc.

We think it could be a lot of fun, perhaps a nice prompt to get people's creative juices flowing, or a chance for some cool collaborations etc!

Please let us know what you think by either replying on here, or you can email me at mark@tacchistudios.com! Even just a simple "yes" or "no" would be great.

If we were to do it for May, what do you think a good theme might be?

Canvas.

I literally mean a canvas. Tabula rasa. Where does a creation start and how, what does a canvas mean to someone, etc. Not everyone here is a painter, and those who are not may have a different starting point they use as a “canvas.”

Unfortunately we've been too busy the last couple of weeks to organize a May one, but I really like your idea Remino Remi, so perhaps that's a good one to start with next month?

I already made one work on the canvas theme before it was set, since I liked that prompt. Now have started to work on a second one. Mark Mcfarlane, can we have a page/section on Canvas to keep all the themed work in one place?

Hi guys, thanks for the interest in this. We're working out some details now, and will update as soon as we can. :)

Actually, I'd like some feedback from you all on the following:

- Would it be good if we had a prize? Or would it be nicer not to make it “competitive” and more “simple fun"?

- If we do have a prize, does anyone have any ideas of possible companies that could sponsor it or provide a prize?

- Do we need a closing date for submissions? Or could we just have a new one every month but anyone can come in and add to old ones? I guess we'd need some kind of cutoff if we had a prize.

- Where would entrants post their creations? As links in the discussion is OK for now (as it doesn’t need any new tech)? We could possibly add a special page that shows tagged creations, but that would take us time to build.

Any other ideas on how it could be handled would be greatly appreciated!

I think a prize, and a cut off date would be fine, but not just a first place, maybe a top 3 or 5. Also, I noticed that someone suggested a place where the work can be viewed, that's a great idea!
In regards to voting, we the uses could vote in the top 10, then an independent team could take it from there.
I say this, as many creatives could then add it to their portfolio, then it would have that 'voted top 5 of your peers' feel.
Does any of that sound interesting?

I think a prize would be good, or even a top 3 prize as well, nothing expensive, either some gift cards to starbucks or other coffee shop or something else that's not too expensive.

We should have a deadline for submission to get the prize so everyone that enters before that date is eligible for the prizes.

We could have a real gallery at the end of the year or every 6 months if possible, but online would be ok for an every month gallery of the entries.

Hope this becomes reality soon!
