About Sollective

Sollective is a HR startup founded in January 2020 by two professionals who want to revolutionize the way we work and change it for the better.

Our mission is a future where all work is personal and meaningful. We believe that ability for people to freelance full time and/or ability take on passion side projects is the way to achieve this. That’s why we’re striving to democratize talent and positively impact the way of working in Japan and beyond. We believe in the ability to: work for companies all over the world, set your own work schedule, and follow your passions.

Our platform, “Sollective” is a community for professional freelancers and companies to directly connect for projects and opportunities. Sollective connects the greatest companies in Japan with the best hand-picked freelancers. Both freelancers and companies are screened to protect the community. We launched our beta in late October 2020 and we’re now at an exciting stage where we are getting started on growing our business and team!

About The Team

We currently are a core team of 15+ and have additional support team members as well. We’re very diverse in terms of both nationality and background. Our members are currently 50% women and are from places like the US, Puerto Rico, France, and Japan.

About The Role

Work Responsibilities:

You’ll be part of the Product team, working alongside the Lead Backend Engineer and other team members (UX Designers, Backend Engineers, Test Engineers, etc.) to expand our product offering to both our customers – freelancers and companies.

• Maintain and improve the existing codebase of our application
• Build new business features using readable, maintainable, and reliable Ruby code
• Help identify and fix bottlenecks and bugs
• Implement best practices of automated testing and unit tests
• Help maintain code quality, organization, and documentation

Who you’ll be working with:

You’ll be reporting to the Lead Back-end Engineer, Trouni, and working alongside our awesome members on the Product team (Co-founder, Project Manager, UX Designers, Engineers, etc.). As well, you’ll be collaborating with other Sollective members as necessary.

Who You Are

• 3+ years of back-end development experience, with Ruby on Rails being a core part of your experience. You should have experience building and using modern APIs.
• Very comfortable working in a team environment, asking questions to fellow developers or other team members to better define the scope and functionality of the feature you are building.
• You don’t need to be fluent in English. It might also be good for people interested in working in an international development environment and/or folks trying to improve their English abilities.
• Ideally, you love writing tests!
• You work well in a team but can also operate independently to accomplish what needs to be done!

Nice to have

• Startup experience
• Familiarity with Japanese and working with the Japanese language in terms of design and development, including multi-language websites
• Some front-end knowledge (especially React, and Next.js) is a plus!
