From August 30th to September 5th I took part in the illustration group exhibition "Home Sweet Home" in Hiroshima. Every participant was asked to illustrated something they were proud about their hometown, and I chose to illustrate six Brazilian foods.
I wanted to transmit the vibrancy of Brazilian food especially through color. I used black ink to outline the shape and applied several layers of watercolor to achieve the strength I was aiming for.
Although there are several Brazilian restaurants in Tokyo, as well as Brazilian communities in Aichi and Gunma prefecture in Japan, Brazilian food seems to be still quite unknown in Hiroshima. I hope these illustrations can encourage the exhibition visitors to try new flavors sometime soon!
