This story is my first ever collaboration with an illustrator, Mariya Suzuki.

I wrote this story because I feel we have relationships with the places we visit. And just as with people, these relationships change the more time we spend in them. This idea was floating around in my head for a while, but it took time to be able to express it in writing.

After I'd written the story, I was looking through photos for a cityscape. I had some, but they... lacked something. I'd met Mariya a week earlier for an article I wrote for Sprudge, and felt her style would really fit with this story. I decided to reach out, and fortunately, she was interested. We got into discussions about an appropriate picture, and the end result is the beautiful piece you see here.
