My newest short story is about accidentally receiving another person’s mail, and reading it. I first got the idea for this when I found a torn-open envelope in my mailbox. It was bill, and I think my neighbor must have received it by mistake, opened it, realized it wasn’t theirs, and given it back to me. I didn’t think much of it at the time, but later I wondered, “What if that had been a personal letter?”
The story grew from that idea into what it is now; a rumination on unrequited love, young romance, and regret.
The illustrations for the story are by Ian M (https://www.instagram.com/squarecomix/), a comic creator based in Hokkaido. I enjoy his storytelling style a lot, so it made me really happy that he was so open to working on a story with me.
