After moving here I've felt myself change in a number of ways. Some of these adjustments I welcome (What's that? More stamina just from walking everywhere? Sign me up) , some I feel indifferent towards (I catch myself hand counting, thumb first, and curling my fingers in instead of out now...) and others I'm tenaciously resisting (Maybe its heinous, but I still walk around my apartment with shoes on).
This painting was forged whilst ruminating on so many of these adjustments and sometimes resistances. What's good for me? What's bad? Which of these modifications will stick with me long after I leave Japan? Time will tell.
I paint film stills of sorts, snapshots of humans in the midst of daily life with often surreal twists.
