Wine Shokudo Shonan | 和飲食堂湘南店

1 March 2017 ● 1 min read ● 1 image

The owners of the wonderful Wine Shokudo Shonan in Samukawa, Kanazawa asked me to create a piece for their restaurant. Their sole request was that it be based on their own lives. I asked for keywords and put the drawing together based on those.

I decided to pull from Japanese irezumi tattoos; tattoos say many things about a person’s life, background, and personality, something that I felt worked well here. To mimic irezumi, I worked without a concrete foreground or background to create a more flowing piece.

I used elements from other media as well, including manga and ukiyo-e. This drawing is a bit hidden away in the restaurant, so I wanted it to pop when guests were finally able to see it.

Original: Ballpoint on bristol, A3

Restaurant: 1 x 1.5 m wall sticker

So cool! I love the video too, such a great way to see how you create something like this!

Thanks! These types of drawings are pretty fun to put together
