Car racing dash running in simulator - ECU + CAN emulation

4 August 2016 ● less than 1 min read ● 0 images

I developed the hardware, software and drivers to send telemetry data from a car simulator over a local CAN network, emulate the car ECU and display the data at 1000 times a second. The simulator is a Porsche 997 GT3 and is open to the public. The sim is located in Aoyama.

For the technical the dash is a racing MoTeC C185 running in Tokyo Virtual Circuit's Porsche 997 GT3 simulator. The hardware uses an HID USB connection to the computer, the drivers and plugins were written in c/c++. The hardware uses a PIC controller. The CAN network runs at full 1Mbit speed.
