About me

I am a freelance textile designer based in Kanagawa, the Grater Tokyo Area, Japan. I have worked on a range of experimental and sustainable textile-related creative projects. A recent knitting project won the iF design award this year and a textile up-cycle project which I worked with a Japanese weaving company won the Red Dot Design Award in 2020. I also have 5+ years of experience teaching textile design for print, and currently, I am a lecturer (part-time) at Tama Art University in Tokyo.

Born in Osaka and grown up in rural city of Tokushima in Japan. I have a MA in design from the Royal Danish Academy of Arts, a Graduate Diploma in interior design and a BA in Fine Arts. I'm expertise in dyed and printed textiles and I have a wide range of knowledge in textile techniques and artistic expression. For design tools, I have about 15 years of experience with Photoshop and Illustrator.

My focus is in the textile and surface design in spatial context, and sustainability in mind. I believe that the form, color and tactility that textiles have has a potential to enhance space’s atmosphere, and see that it is one of the essential elements of architecture which stimulates our sensation and gives us comfort. Existing architecture and surrounding environment are the core inspiration for me. Research is part of a creative process which I think has to be ambitious and empathetic towards something we already have. I am willing to explore the potential of textiles, and I’m passionate for engaging in collaborative projects with designers, academics and companies from various disciplines to take initiatives.
