City of Stolen Magic

This was a cover I completed as my entry for the Penguin Cover Awards 2024 in the Childrens Category. City of Stolen Magic tells the story of Chompa, a young magical girl living in India under British colonisation. When her mother is suddenly kidnapped, Chompa has to travel all the way across the ocean to the strange city of London, where nothing is as it seems.

I wanted the cover to really express Chompa as a gutsy female lead, while teasing other elements and motifs within the story. The colour palette was inspired by the warm, rich tones of Indian design and craft, and the type is playful and fun.
