Looks like it may have happened again though...

What do you guys think about the design?

Eh, seems pretty uninteresting. I understand the need for flexibility and adaptability, but this is pretty dull. The interactive '&' idea sounds nice on paper but I don't think it'll ever be used by anyone as intended.

I've always loved the emblems of each of the 23 wards, and would love to see them, or some reference to them, in use. I don't know about the cultural implications for using them beyond their purpose.

Hmmm why would you go to an ad agency who specialises in media to get your branding done...?

This is shameful... This shows Japanese instances need someone with more understanding of design. Specially for designs supposed for the outside world. So sad people who don't know anything about Japan gets to see this as the image of such a visually rich country...

I agree Luis! If you look at the official site with applications (below) you can see that half of them are illegible.

More so I really don't see how the line "A city that promises all kinds of fun by constantly generating new styles while bringing tradition and innovation together" is reflected in that identity... its more like "& (don't forget) Tokyo".

"And Tokyo" implies it's a city that is more an "afterthought". I don't think anyone here, or in the world for the matter, considers Tokyo anything less than a gem of modern civilization.

130 million yen for a standard (possibly copied )ampersand? who do I sleep with to get that kind of business?

Seems very "Engrish" - Without reading the explanation behind the ampersand, I don't think people would understand why that "&" is just floating there. Feels unfinished and doesn't capture the essence of Tokyo. :(
