Hi Emil,

A good question that I think a lot of creatives in Tokyo would find it useful to have an answer to!

Greg @ Solid Japan helps Tacchi Studios with our accounts and other business stuff, and is a great guy to work (and drink!) with. When first meeting him I quickly got the feeling that he cared about helping us to grow and manage our finances, and that continues to be the case. Highly recommended if you're willing to pay for a good service!

I don't know anything about the other companies you've mentioned unfortunately, so can't say how they compare.

A bit update, I have been meeting Capitaltaxltd and QCIC, they both have similar priceing and seams to be serious. Took long time to get hold of Capitaltaxltd, had to mail and contact them several times before getting a response while QCIC answered me quickly.
I submitted form for Solid Japan 2 times but they haven't come back to me, might try to give them a call.

Uppdate: So I went with QCIC, and as this was the first time for me I was prepared for a intricate and time consuming experience but It was surprisingly smooth, pedagogical and stress free. They also responded quick on email, and meetings where straight froward so no faffing around!

Interesting, thanks for the update Emil. I'd love to hear how other creatives in Tokyo are managing their accounts.

It's a little late for the 2015 tax return, but in case it's useful for others for next year, I can recommend www.gaijintax.com as a nice guide for freelancers who want to handle their tax returns by themselves.

Anyone else have any wisdom to share?

www.gaijintax.com is indeed a very good resource about how stuff actually works, I used it when i started up and I also used this one when I signed up for blue tax http://nichieihonyakusha.com/becoming-a-freelance-translator-in-japan-notifying-the-tax-office/
