Hi there! Can anyone help me with my Wordpress site? Unfortunately, by updating my plugins I seem to have crashed my site. I’ve had a look on a few forums and it looks as though I need to deinstall the plugins that are causing the problem, however I’m also locked out of the dashboard area. All I'm left with is an error message! Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Are you seeing a blank white screen or the Error Establishing A Database Connection screen?

A first option is to contact your website host. Depending on your hosting package or benefits they might be able to help you, or disable the plugins so you can log back in.

Hi Fernando,

Thanks for your reply and advice. Yes, the screen I'm getting is a blank and white with an error message. I'll try my web hosts.

Thanks again

Hi Nick,
This one? http://www.gensojapan.org/
Do you have ftp access to your site?
Quick way is to ftp in and rename the plugin folder to plugin1 (or something) which will automatically deactivate the plugins.
You can then install a roll back plugin to roll back to previous versions and reactivate them. Or if you have a quality web host you could restore the last backup. (You are doing backups aren't you?)

That should get you back to the previous working state, from which you can reconsider how you update your site in future. Updating plugins is not always guaranteed to work, especially with old out of date ones, and you need a strategy in place. A staging server is a good one, as you can test updates there easily before applying them to your live site.

Hi Paul,

Thanks very much for your advice. Yes, the trouble I'm having is with genso. I'm currently trying to get my web hosts to help me. If they can't or won't, I might contact you later. Keep that hat close!

The problem looks to be with ultimate-social-media-icons plugin.
If you can get the site back up you can try reactivating the other plugins (assuming that's the only one that's failing) but leave ultimate-social-media-icons deactivated and look into why it failed, or replace it.
