Possible Canvas Musicians' Round Table

Hello everyone,

Me and Paul Cohen have been discussing about a possible event for musicians, and thought it would be nice to try and get together people interested in music production, to talk about music production, performance and businesses and the future of music.

We'll get together around a big table, briefly introduce ourselves to the group, and then get talking!

The initial idea is to do this at some point in June (Monday night at Harajuku/Meiji-jinguu). So, if anyone is interested, please let us know and perhaps drop a few topics your are interested in discussing.

Also it’d be great if you could invite some other friends (non-Canvas members are fine too!).

Thanks,
Junta

How about we all use some of our invites to get some more interested musicians on board? I have a few left if you are out so ping me their details and a message to send from you if you need some more!

Looks like we're getting close to announcing this so stay tuned!

In the meantime, here's a couple of videos on some explorations in VR "instrument" interfaces:

LYRAVR: https://techcrunch.com/video/make-music-in-vr-with-lyravr/591a23d383b51f51102f052b/

I think we still have some way to go in terms of hardware usability and cost to realize the potential of these, but it's interesting to see the different approaches. One of my own key area's of interest for this is energetic interfaces, where you can harness the best elements of both the analog and digital interfaces to connect with music when performing.

What do you think?

Is the list of discussion questions available online? I couldn't find it on the link.

It's quite high level at the moment, split into 4 categories ie: "talk about music production, performance, business and the future of music"

I'd also add education to that, though that could also been seen as a horizontal skill applied across all areas.

I was going to put out another message once we hit about 75% signups highlighting these areas as prompts for topics. I have to talk to Junta about the best way to canvas (!) topics beforehand, so I can make a list, sort and categorize them so we can run through them in some sort of order.

What do you have in mind? We can discuss here in advance as well, or start a new thread specific to the meetup #1.

Hi Paul Cohen and Fernando Gros,

Thank you for asking about pre-meeting communication. For now, the comment section in event page would be good for it. (We will improve the event page in the near future.) https://www.canvas.co.com/tokyo/events/214

What do you think?

Just got a 500 error trying to post this there:

Hello!
As mentioned above, the topic of conversation for this meetup is based around four broad areas:
. Music Production
. Music Performance
. Music Business
. The Future of Music
I'd also add
. Education, which can apply to all areas above and is continuous!

Please post in the comments below anything that you'd like to specifically discuss in the meetup and I'll panel beat them into some sort of logical order we can attack them in.

I'd also like to throw out the idea of a "Show and Tell" section (stolen from the UX Talk Tokyo team;-) when we each throw out something interesting we've seen that's music related: could be showing a new piece of gear, a performance tip, a learning tip, whatever!

Lets jam!

See you soon,
Paul, Junta, & the Canvas Team

Thanks. I was curious as that helps me get a feel for what to expect. I don't have any topics to suggest. My own interest is in what music people are making, the problems they are personally facing and any solutions they've come up with. Look forward to seeing how the event unfolds.

Great, they sound like good introduction topics as well.

I have a couple of specific one's I'd like to throw out that cut across all areas and are kind of related.
. Why do you play music?
. Musician health issues (mental and physical): solutions and strategies
