Posssible micro fiction meetup

Hello everyone,

After talking to Tanya Tanaka on Canvas the other day, we thought it would be nice to try and get together a few other people interested in micro fiction, to talk about approaches to creating it, its potential uses, and how it could be combined with photography, illustration or other forms.

The initial idea is to try and do a meetup at some point after mid-May. So, if anyone is interested, please let us know (here, is fine) and perhaps drop a few dates that work.

Cheers,
Rob

This sounds great, Rob and Tanya!

I think Junta may have mentioned this already, but if you need any help with a space, getting the word out, or anything else please let us know!

I have a couple of other people in mind who could be interested. I'll point them in this direction. :)

Would love to attend, or even help with hosting at our small roof-top office if it's a smaller event :)

My team and I are focused on developing writing software that is focused on fiction, like Rough Draft. We're also working on the production of some new forms of it right now too! Will look forward to this!

I'd be interested in meeting up to learn more about micro-fiction. I don't write it often, so I'd love to hear what sort of work people have done.

Shall we set a date and time? Benjamin Watanabe, where is your office?

I have a fairly flexible schedule and can meet during the week or on weekends. How are others for May 19, 20, 21 or 22 (Thursday-Sunday)? Preferences?

Rob Goss

My schedule is fairly flexible, too; anything that doesn't clash with the afternoon school run (and ideally some time Mon to Fri) works great.

I'm very interested in the idea of combining fiction with photography. My background is non-fiction, but after working with a writing coach for much of 2015, I'm keen to explore fiction & micro-fiction. Those May dates suit me. I would prefer to meet in the morning, or early afternoon.

On the 22nd I'm free in the afternoon after 2pm, we can meet somewhere in the center of the city, maybe Shibuya and can go to a coffee shop?

Shibuya would be perfect, and Sunday at 2 works for me. Shibuya coffee shops tend to be packed. Wonder if there is somewhere we can book? Or Junta can help us with a place to meet? Need to know how many can join us - speak up, people!

I will be done work at 2pm so by the time I can get to Shibuya it would be around 3 pm or so, maybe we can find a hidden cafe or place to sit and share.

Sorry for not replying sooner Tanya Tanaka, was offline for Golden Week.

Our office is based between Shibuya and Ebisu, closer to Ebisu, here's a Google Map: https://goo.gl/maps/ZH8RPtg7cb62

We have 8 chairs and could squeeze in about 12-13'ish people with our floor pillows if we want to do it here :)

It looks like there may be less than 8 people coming on the 22nd so we might be able to fit in at Benjamin's office. Let's do this!

Sounds like you decided to take place the meetup at Ben's office, but we can offer our studio at night on weekdays in the future. I hope it goes well!

Likewise, was great meeting everyone and thank you, Benjamin Watanabe for the space! It was good to share our bents and common concerns and to learn of all the apps and sites and other tools out there / in development that support the act, and the art, of writing. Would love to produce something together. But at the very least, am glad for the injection of spirit 'cos that's good stuff. (^^)v

Tanya Tanaka me too!

Rob Goss, would love to hear your presentation that you did for the kids in Hiroshima next time! Maybe we can all find and share a piece of micro-fiction and bring it to share a the next event. Or maybe some kind of "show & tell" around micro-fiction. Let me know when you all want to do another meetup and will make sure and have the space open :)

Thanks for coming out yesterday Tanya Tanaka, Susan Rogers Chikuba and Benjamin Watanabe (and thanks for the great meeting space!), I really enjoyed it. And, of course, thanks for the online venue here Mark Mcfarlane without which this meetup wouldn't have happened! Besides the ideas and inspirations from yesterday, I've already picked up an addiction to the Hear app that Ben mentioned.

Hopefully we can do another meetup soon and kick-start some collaborations.
