About me

My name's Stephen Smith and I'm a Graphic, Web and Information Designer based in Tokyo. I specialise in web design, HTML and CSS as well as server-side, front-end, UI/UX design, branding, logo design, technically informed art-direction and project management. I'm constantly refining my workflow, using such things as Ruby on Rails, Middleman, Node.js, Bootstrap and host of other technologies to make things lighter and tighter.

I work freelance which allows me to live anywhere in the world, which has really helped me to improve as a producer. Right now in Tokyo, I'm constantly finding inspiration for my projects. Great sushi doesn't hurt either.

My Creations

  1. Ninki Bitcoin Wallet

    17 July 2015

I created the new site for Ninki Wallet bitcoin desktop and mobile app, designed in the browser, mobile first with Bootstrap. I also did the branding, direction and photography design. I also did the design and UI/UX for the new mobile app coming this Autumn. http://ninkip2p.com

  2. Logo Design for Delivery Tokyo

    16 September 2015

I created this illustrated logo for a startup that, alas, never took off. If it had've popped into existence it would've been a food delivery equivalent of tabelog or gurunavi, that would've let you order and pay for take out or delivery in the Tokyo area. The challenge was to... continue reading (0, 1 image)

  3. Logo Design for Motto Japan

    16 September 2015

This logo design was for a Japanese contemporary ceramics dealer. As it happens the logo was revised later on (also by me), but this always remained my favourite so I've decided to share this one instead. It was actually inspired by one of their main collaborating artisans, Shiro Hamanaka, who's... continue reading (0, 1 image)

  4. Delivery Tokyo Design

    18 September 2015

To follow up the logo, here it is in the actual page. This is fairly old work now so the company has moved to Australia, changed the name to Delivery Hunter and completely changed the homepage design. I would also like to stress, I wasn't responsible for UX design in... continue reading (0, 1 image)

  5. Final Motto Japan Logo

    18 September 2015

And this is how it ended up. A complete departure from the original, but this one worked too. Shopify site is down as of today, and looks like they may have discontinued their ecommerce operations, but the twitter and facebook accounts are still live.

  6. In The Glitter

    16 September 2016

This work is already 5 years old now, but it hadn't occurred to me to post it on here before. I'm still quite proud of it and I still like to go back and look at it from time to time. Some of the places in this video have now... continue reading (0, 0 images)

  7. Recruit.ai

    Recruit.ai

For this Tokyo startup, specialising in artificial-intelligence-driven recruitment software services, I created a brand identity and responsive microsite to compliment...
