About me

Hello,

My name is Milenko and I am a painter/illustrator currently based in Tokyo. I came from Serbia two years ago to study oil painting at the Tokyo Geidai and am currently a second year postgraduate student. I'm interested in both contemporary and classical painting and illustration. Looking forward to connecting with like minded people and creatives!

My Creations

  1. Ueno

    8 October 2015

Drawing of an urban landscape as seen from a bridge near Ueno Station. It was quite interesting observing the scene change, being lit in different ways, and choosing what moment to depict.

  2. Yanaka Ginza

    8 October 2015

Pencil drawing of Yanaka Ginza. I enjoyed the process of drawing outside and getting to meet all the people who frequented this place over the course of a couple of weeks.

  3. Shinobazu Ike

    8 October 2015

The winter light going through the bare branches and hitting the withered plants is what attracted me to draw this scene. Hopefully I was able to capture at least a small part of that impression.

  4. Showa-Dori

    9 October 2015

A small oil sketch painted from one of the pedestrian bridges overseeing the crossroads near Ueno.

  5. Shrine study

    9 October 2015

Small sketch of a shrine painted just behind the Tokyo National Museum.

  6. Ragaraja

    9 October 2015

Study of a Kamakura period wooden sculpture from the Tokyo National Museum.

  7. Yanaka Graveyard

    20 November 2015

A recent drawing of a graveyard I did in the Yanaka area. Enjoyed the piece and quiet as well as the crazy shapes of the twisted old tree.

  8. Nihonbashi

    28 December 2015

A small plein air study of the famous Nihonbashi bridge.

  9. I started this picture being attracted to the geometry of the traditional kimono wear. The figure is approximately life-size and I painted it during several sessions with the model. This was an interesting experience that showed me how I can improve in some areas. I hope to make it into... continue reading (0, 1 image)

  10. Shopfront in Tsukiji

    26 February 2019

This painting started as a series of sketches at the Tsukiji market and then turned into a studio project with friends posing for different roles. I like the atmosphere of the old shopfronts, very glad to have had the opportunity to record some of them before the main market moved.
