About me

Konnichiwa! My name's Duncan, and I'm from Norfolk in the UK. I'm a 5-fruit-&-veg-a-day kind of guy: I like my drinks soft and my music softer. I'm part of an indie folk pop band with my brother based here in Tokyo, and we like to spend our time writing heartfelt pop songs on second hand guitars while sipping on green tea. We call ourselves The Watanabes and we've been strumming our stuff in the smokey, dark and dungeon-like live houses of Japan for over ten years now. We've been fortunate enough to release three records at major record stores nationwide and have had our tunes used by CNN, Triumph Motorcycles, the BBC, and Western Union. We've gained some notable fans along the way including 60's legend Dave Crosby (The Byrds), Academy Award winner Ric O'Barry, and Matt Sorum (Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver), who shared the stage with us in 2013. TimeOut Tokyo have called us "Tokyo's answer to The Smiths" on our account of our love for Morrissey's miserable but musical gang. I'm always up for making music or being creative, and would love to meet any like-minded artists. Don't be shy.
