About me

Tokyo-based writer, editor and consultant with an eye on travel, lifestyle, sustainability, culture, design and the Japanese consumer mindset. My editorial work has appeared in Japanese and international media including The Japan Times, Time Out Tokyo, Tokyo Weekender, Time Out (London), and The Independent on Sunday (UK). Across such platforms I’ve conveyed everything from the serenity of outlying Okinawan islands, to the complex visions of Tokyo presented by contemporary artists.

I also create branded content, with clients including Navitime Travel, Nikon Japan, USEN Corporation, and government body the Japan Tourism Agency.

As the sole Japan-based contributor to leading global trend forecaster WGSN, with responsibility for all Tokyo/Japan-focused content, I keep an eye trained on where Japan is headed next. Creating reports that track trends across a diversity of consumer segments, I offer WGSN clients such as Nike, Samsung and Starbucks insight that gives them a strategic head start in responding to emerging currents in Japan and the wider APAC region.

In collaboration with WGSN, I have created bespoke advisory content and on-the-ground Tokyo ‘cultural safaris’ for companies including LVMH.

I’m also a competent J-to-E translator (clients include +81 magazine and Time Out Tokyo).

Born in the UK, I graduated from Tokyo university ICU with a BA in Anthropology.
