About me

I'm a Tokyo-based illustrator who is rooted in the analog experience of putting pen to paper. This process has always been at my core. I love working with line, shape and light to create both illustrations and hand type work. The imperfections of physical creation are embraced, as I believe they add character and 'soul,' if you will, to work. Music and album art from the 60s/70s/80s are a large source of inspiration, and as such, I have done lots of music related work for event posters, promotional material, and album art. My sense of humor, skate culture, and my experiences with different cultures while living/traveling abroad also make their way into my work. I like to stay open stylistically, and as such, I'm not bound by a particular 'look,' feeling free to experiment and switch things up at will.

My Creations

  1. Pretzel Logic

    11 November 2017

While reading some commentary about the current PO(TU)S awhile back, I came across a Kareem Abdul-Jabbar quote regarding how people thought Drumpf's words were getting twisted: 'No one has to twist his words because what he says is twisted enough. He speaks fluent pretzel.' I got the idea from this... continue reading (0, 1 image)

  2. Mawkus

    11 November 2017

This is a portrait of my good friend, fellow DJ & music head: the one and only Mawkus, one half of NY's Darker Than Wax division. He's a unique brand of human that keeps it cosmic, so when he asked if I could draw him holding a baby panda, I... continue reading (0, 1 image)

  3. More Fresher EP

    11 November 2017

I also make music in addition to illustration, which means I never need to reach out to people when I need art for my own projects. I created a logo for my artist name, a typeface and a self-portrait for the album art (all hand-drawn). The logo went through several... continue reading (1, 1 image)

  4. Here are two album art designs I made. The top one is for an LA/Tokyo-based DJ, Kaistar, I played with at an event here in Tokyo. After meeting, we kept up on Instagram and he really dug my artwork, so he reached out with a concept for a mixtape: he... continue reading (1, 1 image)

  5. Wonk 'Sphere'

    5 December 2017
    Wonk 'Sphere'

An album cover I made for the Tokyo experimental soul band WONK. I did illustration/design (minus their name & the parental advisory sticker). When I first sat down wi...

  6. Holiday Poster

    4 February 2020

It's been a very hot minute since posting anything, so getting back into the habit. Here's a holiday poster from a couple years ago that I made for a record label in New York that I work with sometimes called Bastard Jazz. There wasn't any concept when they approached me... continue reading (1, 1 image)

  7. New York event poster

    14 February 2020

This is a poster I made for an event that a DJ I know in New York did at the Black Flamingo, a club run by one of NY's finest duos, Soul Clap. I was essentially given free reign and worked with a color palette that I'd been wanting to... continue reading (0, 1 image)

  8. Kool Customer 12" LP album artwork + design + layout

This was a project I was super hype to do. I had done event posters for this label, Bastard Jazz in New York, so when they asked me to handle the album art (plus desig...

  9. Potatohead People Japan Tour

    Potatohead People Japan Tour

This was a really fun project from last summer. A label that I've worked with before reached out to originally have me help them sort some contacts for tour dates and ...

  10. Silka Album Title

    12 July 2021

Here is a recent album cover that I put my hand styles to use for. An amazing artist from New York who I've worked with before gave me the photo options for the cover and the back (which I also did tracklisting layout for), sent a link for the album... continue reading (1, 1 image)

  11. What started several years ago as a regular drawing practice to get familiar with using a 筆ペン, or brush pen, gradually evolved into a collection of hundreds heads drawn in-transit, at music events, during meals, and other in-between moments. Some were inspired by real people, but most were drawn in... continue reading (1, 1 image)
