I'm a journalist Stationed in Tokyo where I mainly cover general news - from national elections to Japan's graying population and from the preparations for Tokyo Olympics 2020 to the recovery work of the 2011 disaster-hit area Fukushima. I have worked for Dutch national newspapers, such as NRC Handelsblad, NRC Next, Financieel Dagblad, Trouw, Het Parool and Algemeen Dagblad.
On the side, I concentrate on issues and social phenomena that tend to escape the attention of international news media and write long feature stories about these topics. I do this mainly for the Dutch weekly magazine Nieuwe Revu, but I also wrote features for VICE USA and technology magazine Discover Magazine.
I also wrote numerous features about Japan's diverse cuisine. Not only for Dutch magazines, such as Misset Horeca and Sainsonnier, but also for international publications, for instance, Food & Wine.
Last but not least, I extensively reported about Japan's health care system for Dutch healthcare magazines (Zorgvisie, BoardRoom Zorg), interested to know more about how Japan deals with an aging society and declining birthrate.
