About me

Hello! My name is Anna Gonzalez Noguchi and I am a contemporary artist currently based in Tokyo. My art practise consists of sculpture, video and installation. Since coming to Japan it has been most exciting creating site-specific work that directly responds to a specific location for example I participated this year in a artist residency in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi where I exhibited in a old ice factory or Tsumago, Nagiso where I exhibited in a 18-years-ago traditional elementary school. Making site-specific work allows me to work in a intuitive and free manner and really engage with a location; the people, the nature, the objects and architecture, and make a piece of work that has a inextricable relationship with the site.

My particular interest on the meaning and what factors create a “place” comes from my personal experience of when I am asked “where are you from?”. I was born in the UK however my mother is Japanese and my father is Spanish and I was raised in the U.S.A., Venezuela and Germany. From this multi-cultural upbringing it has made me open-minded and I am always curious and excited to learn about different cultures, hear peoples stories and backgrounds.

Aside from contemporary art I am interested in film and documentary, photography, travelling, doing anything that keeps me active and on my feet. Generally always excited to be involved in anything creative.

I look forward to being part of creative platform and to meeting other people with similar interests in Tokyo!
