Light Painting + Sound Painting (live in Tokyo)

20 April 2016 ● less than 1 min read ● 0 images

This is a montage of moments from "Morgan's Organ" which was a series of 100 monthly "sound painting" (solo improvisation) concerts. The series started in 2003, ended in 2013, and now continues as "Morgan's Organ At Home" live in my personal studio. All the shows have been have been recorded, and many are now available on Amazon, iTunes, etc.

During each concert I project my Light Paintings. These are abstract photographs created by freely moving a camera (usually a Hasselblad H series or Canon 5D) in front of various light sources during long exposures. No computer graphics are used.

The instruments played are mainly vintage analogue keyboards from the 50's to the 80's, combined with advanced digital effects such as loopers, filters, whammy pedals, Moogerfoogers, etc. A different combination of keyboards and effects are used each time, challenging me to create new music out of thin air - a kind of "instant composing."
