Embrace

Embrace

The challenge of this piece was to transform the flat surface of the concrete wall in the original photograph into a space with the feeling of a deeper horizon, creating a sense of light and air from the original cold, hard concrete "background".

The main figures were apparent from the outset. Originally I worked this as a bleak and stormy windswept ocean scene evoking a somewhat sad farewell embrace.

But in keeping with the less "realistic" quality of other images in the series, finally decided the subjects would work better in a softer, more ambiguous location with elevation and light. This was the result.

As with all images in this series, it was made in Photoshop from a single photograph of a concrete wall as source material.
