Storm Fairy

Storm fairy (Arashi no Yousei) is a manga by Osamu Tezuka created in back in 1955. It follows a cursed princess and a fairy who fights to reclaim her rightful place on the throne.

I was commissioned to design a poster that would be part of a campaign to launch the english version of Storm Fairy in the US market. The goal of the poster was to capture the story's fairy tale enchantments, musical scenes and the character's bond with nature.

The design that I went for was a fairy tale musical environment using soft color schemes and clean-cut retro look to bring out the story's age and relevance to the modern culture. Most importantly I tried to stay away from the typical japanese design styles and illustrate a more "borderless" look.
