The first sunrise of 2016

Taken at Hinode mountain (日の出山) at sunrise on Jan 1st 2016.

We partied in Shibuya until 2am, drove out to the mountain and hiked to the top in the darkness, just in time for this beatiful sunrise. A wonderful experience.

I don't consider myself a photographer, but I like abstract photography, and am experimenting with my new camera.

Taken with a Panasonic GH4 with 20mm f1.7 lens, intentionally out of focus.

Nice pic to start out the year! We climbed 滝子山 on January 1st, but certainly didn't make it to the top in time for sunrise!

Thanks Rob, yeah it was a nice way to start. Looks like 滝子山 is a fair bit higher than 日の出山!

Great shot! The sun looks that big shot with a 20mm lens? Or did you crop the photo?

Thanks Morgan! I don't think I cropped the photo or anything, but I guess the focus made the sun a little bigger?

Wow, your photos are fantastic! I bet they look even better when printed nice and big in a well lit room!

Thanks, Mark! Yes I like to print my "light paintings" big when I can. They also look good projected while I play music. I hope you'll see them that way sometime (see the May 6 event I've listed, for example).

Yes I'd love to come on the 6th! I've got a crazy couple of weeks coming up unfortunately, but if I can work it out I'll be in touch. :)

Mark Mcfarlane Is this the 日の出山 near Mitakeyama? I mountain bike past, just below the summit of Hinode sometimes.

Daniel Schallau Yes that's the one! Actually I was mountain biking around that area a few weeks ago too! Would love to discuss trails sometime as I'm always looking for good options!

I'd love to go riding sometime. My bike is being fixed at the moment in America. Broken frame. I've done some riding on Yanagisawa pass in Yamanashi that is pretty good. Also there is a park with a bunch of loops down low near the Moomin park close to Ome that I like. I can be more specific if you like. I'll be riding again this fall.

Cool! Let me know! Maybe I can join you!
