Awaodori Postcard

29 August 2016 ● 1 min read ● 3 images

I got the opportunity to do a quick illustration for Koenji's 60th Awaodori. I roughed out a sketch based on a photo reference I was given, then used sumi ink and a calligraphy brush to do the line work. I digitally added some speed-lines to make it more dynamic.

The illustration was used on a postcard that explained a little bit about the event to first-time visitors. It was distributed for free by staff on the streets in Koenji.

This was my second time going to Awaodori. The first time left a great impression on me with the performers energy and enthusiasm and the crowds support was awesome too, so I was really happy to be able to contribute a year later!
