Star of India, San Diego

Star of India, San Diego

Since I'm always looking for lines in the man made environment to use in my drawings/paintings, I was very enthusiastically taking photos of the rigging and masts of the Star of India in San Diego when I noticed a Manx flag, a highly unusual sight. As a half Manx person, seeing our national flag on this huge ship was both thrilling and baffling. Discovered that the ship was built in Ramsey, Isle of Man where my Manx family originates - such a coincidence. I took many photos which I then used to make layers in Procreate on an iPad Pro. Added colour near the end of the drawing process and adjusted layers to make different versions.
